I created a Class Dojo page for my design ILP. I made classroom of my own and I
added my own students. (using my friends names of course) At first I was a
little overwhelmed, however, it gave me even more information on the website. I created class groups that allowed me to group student together by table and was able to award points or take deductions to the groups. I discovered there was an attendance tab, a timer tab and an idea tab that are each useful for tracking student logging ideas and keeping time for activities.
I also found that I could award point to my class as a whole
or for each individual student by simply clicking the whole class button or the
student’s avatar monster!

I invited parents to join my class page which provides an interactive platform for them to like share and comment on ideas on our class stories page.
I will definitely be using this tool in my future real life classroom
This is the webpage link and my classroom link!

This website is amazing. I am invited as a parent to my imaginary son Marlin, so I really enjoy seeing, as a parent, what I can do. This seems like a great way to keep parents and students involved. Will you have every parent and every student have access to everything? Or do parents just see the work their child is doing? This is kind of like a Facebook for the classroom. I love everything you're adding to it.
ReplyDeleteBoth parents and students are able to access the Class Dojo! but usually for elementary grades the page is mostly for parent! As you your imaginary child Marlin he is doing an excellent job haha.
DeleteThis ILP is awesome and I would definitely use in the future as well. One thing I would try and do is make the links that you have provided to open in a new tab, rather than open in the current tab. Just out of curiosity, how long did this take to set up? Would you use this on a daily basis in your classroom?
ReplyDeleteIt took a couple minutes to set up but I did have to add each student and "send" out the invites to the parents but over all maybe 45 minutes!
DeleteI really love your Class Dojo. I think this is a better, more elementary/interactive version of Edmodo. I've never been able to explore Class Dojo, but after seeing your classroom, I definitely want to make one just for fun! I was looking up cool features of Class Dojo that I could hopefully share with you, but instead I found an alternative website that looks really interesting. RedCritter is a similar tool, but it has more features. To name a few: a teacher can make seating charts, the profiles are student-owned, and you can reward points to students that they can redeem in the store for real classroom rewards (ex. - more computer time or getting to choose the music for the classroom.) Although I've never used either ClassDojo or RedCritter, RedCritter sounds like something you may want to check out, as well!
ReplyDeleteI will definitely check out RedCritter! I have learned so much about it already but I didn't know about the seating chart feature, thats so cool!
DeleteThis is the cutest thing I have ever seen. The platform or website is set in a very interactive form which I personally admire. I think to maybe make Class Dojo look more professional and have a little more than just school work. You could maybe add cool articles or videos that students would be interested in reading, as well as parents. Or maybe in a real-life classroom, include pictures of the students being involved or videos of projects presented in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteYes! I think pictures of students and videos sounds like such a good way to spice up the page a little! Class Dojo is a bit more casual than edmondo or another class organization sites.
